Throughout the United States, there are close to 40,000 non-profits committed to helping our military and Veteran families navigate through life – whether it be seeking benefits, combating homelessness, working through combat trauma or finding employment…just to name a few.
To the general public, finding the right non-profit to support and come alongside can be overwhelming – and not all non-profits in this space are legit. Operation Donate with Honor was developed by the FTC and the National Association of State Charity Officials (NASCO), the association of state offices charged with oversight of charitable organizations and charitable solicitations in the United States. The initiative pairs enforcement actions with an education campaign, in English and Spanish, to help consumers recognize charitable solicitation fraud and identify legitimate charities. This includes new videos that highlight tips on how to research charities and give wisely to veterans organizations.
One of those non-profits to come alongside is The Journey Home Project, founded by Country Music Hall of Famer Charlie Daniels. Charlie is a passionate, vocal supporter of veterans’ causes and was awarded the Office of the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Public Service award for his support of military personnel and as well as the AmVet Silver Helmet award, an annual award that recognizes various patriotic achievements and presented by the AmVets, an organization formed by World War II veterans.
His non-profit, which is committed to assisting other not-for-profits in securing funds to help causes that benefit veterans of the United States Armed Forces, recently teamed with NASCAR’S Mike Harmon Racing – of which several veterans and active-duty military personnel were on-hand to celebrate the new partnership on Friday, July 6 at the NASCAR Xfinity Series, Coca-Cola Firecracker 250 at
the Daytona International Speedway.
Professional stock car driver Mike Harmon revealed his latest racer that includes a fresh hood logo featuring Daniels and The Journey Home Project.
“It was a complete honor having The Journey Home Project and Charlie Daniels aboard this past weekend honoring our nations heroes,” adds Harmon. “Eight members of the HSM-60 Jaguars along with Sgt. Brandon Stevenson, USMC, Purple Heart Receipt, escorted the car onto the track. We honored their service and sacrifices and also saluted the HELMINERON FIFTEEN (HM-15) Blackhawks with a windshield banner. These fine gentlemen also represented The Journey Home Project and what their mission stands for. All of us at Mike Harmon Racing can’t wait to do it all over again this season.”
